Overview

Hao You Teluk Kumbar Seafood is a quaint seafood restaurant nestled in the fishing village charm of Teluk Kumbar, Bayan Lepas, Pulau Pinang. This spot has quietly served fresh, well-prepared seafood for over a decade, becoming a beloved local destination for those seeking an authentic coastal dining experience away from Georgetown’s urban pace.

The menu shines with simple yet expertly cooked dishes highlighting the purity of the sea’s bounty. Steamed crab, often enhanced with Chinese wine, stands out as a signature dish, celebrating the natural sweetness of freshly caught crustaceans. Complementing the crustaceans are other steamed offerings such as clams, squid, and octopus, suggested by the attentive servers as the ideal way to fully enjoy the ocean’s flavors. The satay chicken and belacan fried chicken provide savory alternatives, showcasing the kitchen’s knack for traditional Malaysian flavors. Vegetables like sweet potato leaves and water convolvulus add freshness and balance to the meal.

The rustic setting reflects a fishing village ambiance—laid back and unpretentious. Wooden tables, the sounds of nearby waves, and attentive local staff create a warm atmosphere where guests feel welcomed and informed. The restaurant can get a little warm, a small tradeoff for dining so close to the sea.

Its location offers more than just food. Guests dine with an expansive view of the sea, particularly enchanting in the evening when the sunset glows on the opposite horizon, avoiding direct glare while bathing the sky in soft light. Parking is well-managed with staff guiding visitors, easing arrival stress. While the entrance may be easy to miss when driving quickly, the journey is rewarded by fresh seafood and a genuine coastal vibe.

Hao You Teluk Kumbar Seafood is ideal for locals and tourists who appreciate the freshness of seafood prepared simply and authentically. It attracts those willing to take a short trip from the city—by car or even bus—seeking a down-to-earth meal with robust flavors and a memorable waterside atmosphere. Whether sharing a crab feast, enjoying a bowl of shark fin soup, or savoring the delicate texture of steamed clams, diners leave feeling connected to the rhythms of the sea and local tradition.

Very laid back, fishing village style setting. The male waiter who took our order was patient and informative. Pricing is reasonable. Seafood is super fresh. As suggested by the waiter, best method to cook fresh seafood is to either steam/ boil it. Place is a tad bit warm.

Love the fishing village vibes. Had crabs, steamed octopus and prawns. Very fresh seafood. Reasonably priced. Plenty of locals dine there. A tad far from Georgetown but worth the trip! If you are game, take bus 401 from Komtar (1h ride), alight at "Pekan Teluk Lumbar" it's just a short walk in.

While the food didn’t quite match my personal preferences, the location more than made up for it. Having dinner with a sea view in the evening is a great experience, especially since the sunset is on the other side, no harsh sunlight. Parking is well-managed, with staff giving clear instructions, so it’s very convenient.

First time patronaged this Seafood restaurant was 15 years ago (don't guess what is my number ). The seafood (mantis prawn, octopus , crabs) are fresh and tasted still traditional seafood serving, reflected the atmosphere of Kampung style, fishing village seafood restaurant. Nestled beside the beach with fishing boats docking on its shore. Cynically, the highlight of the dish is Satay (not traditional style), the chicken Satay were marinated ala rendang, served with some cut cucumber without any peanut sauce or onion, the taste is marvellous! Taste buds open to other type, non - typical satay. A must to try, order from a kiosk at the adjacent towards the left side.

Nothing fancy about restaurant, just dinner with a good beautiful sea view. Kind of romantic lah, but today with male friend . Food taste good kind of old school type, like classic seafood restaurant. Only 2 head didn't order much, looks like crabs popular here. Surprisingly Salted egg Sotong sedap lah. Important for me is after makan my throat don't feel dry, probably cut cost use minimal MSG. Good makan place with friends, family & GF.

The overall dining experience was pleasant. We ordered two crabs for RM 95.00, and while the sweet and sour sauce was a bit more watery than we preferred, the flavour was still decent. The fried squid, coated with some cili padi, had a nice kick and was enjoyable. The highlight of the meal was the satay, which was delicious and packed with meat—10 sticks for RM 15.00, great value for the price!
